Billy began his life on this earth August 26, 1945, at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was the middle son of Austin and Laura Rogers. Billy had two brothers Lionel and Dale (deceased). Billy was the middle child of the three. Those who have experienced a like position in the family tree know how that can affect your position in life.
Billy was usually very quiet, but he knew how to get his mother’s attention when his brothers would only give him the attention that he did not care for. Mother would come to his rescue and sometimes there was a price that Lionel and Dale paid, which was usually deserved.
Billy, his two brothers and Mom and Dad enjoyed a good life on the farm. They were not rich in material goods but were very rich with love. They always had plenty to eat and chores to do. Living on the farm allowed all the children to learn the responsibilities of life such as caring for themselves, caring for all the farm animals and learning how to plant and care for crops to harvest.
In his early twenties, Billy began public working with the Tacachale Center (State of Florida) in Gainesville where mother and father both worked thus, they could carpool together every day. This was Billy’s professional life for thirty-one (31) years when he retired at the age of 53.
After Billy retired at age 53 and decided he would relocate to Advent Christian Village (ACV) in Dowling Park, FL where Mom was residing in assisted living. Billy spent all his twenty-five (25) retirement years at ACV where there were many activities for him to be involved in and many loving people for him to have many friends and a very healthy social life in a Christian environment. Billy worked as the mail carrier for many years at ACV.
Billy and his family always appreciated the personal attention and care provided by the ACV staff. Billy spent the last two years in the Good Samaritan Center at ACV. Billy’s motto was Do Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly from Micah 6:8. He was always very happy and peaceful until he went to be with our Lord on Thursday September 21, 2023.
