Selma Margaret McClarigan, 78, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2025, with her devoted husband by her side at their home in Trenton, FL.
She was born in Trenton, FL on June 18, 1947, and was raised in Bell, FL on her parents’ farm. She attended Bell High School where she graduated as Valedictorian. She went on to college at Florida State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree and subsequently received her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten at Bell and Trenton Elementary Schools until she retired in 2006 after 35 years.
Her life experiences came with many blessings. She received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career as a teacher. Much of this was due not only to her passion and dedication as a teacher, but also her devotion as a Christian and her motherly love for all her students. Her love and warmth frequently brought many of her students back to visit her throughout the years. She was always proud of their accomplishments and felt great joy in being able to influence her students in their formative years.
Selma is known for her love of quilting, tatting, cooking, painting, and a mix of numerous other creative crafts. She would spend hours each day reading and loved books that told true stories about the lives of people in other countries. She also loved reading the scriptures daily and dedicated her life to God, God’s Church, her family, and friends.
Selma is preceded in death by her father, Gerald Gilbert Roberts and mother, Sally Selma Roberts (Rogers), three sisters, Edna Watson, Amma Lou Koon, Rosi Townsend, three brothers, Gilbert G. Roberts, Festus Roberts, and Adel Roberts. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Dale McClarigan, brother Gerald Roberts, sister Polly Stover, daughter Elizabeth (Beth) May, son Marc May, his wife Michelle, and her grandson, Holden May.
There will be a visitation on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Watson-Milton Funeral Home in Trenton, Fl. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 am at The Church of Latter-Day Saints (215 NE 8th Street Chiefland, Fl).
