Ross Elliott Heaton

November 28, 1955 — June 12, 2025

Ross Elliott Heaton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Trenton, Florida, following a lengthy illness. Born on November 28, 1955, in Plant City, Florida, Ross was a shining light to all who knew him, known for his kindness and selflessness.

Graduating from Plant City High School in 1974, Ross soon embarked on a journey that would shape his life profoundly. He proudly served his country in the Army (82nd Airborne MP) for three years of active duty, followed by one year in the Florida National Guard. His patriotism ran deep, and nothing brought him to tears, quite like the sight of a flag-draped casket or the stirring notes of the National Anthem.

After his military service, Ross fulfilled two childhood dreams by working as both an over-the-road truck driver and a deputy sheriff. In the years, just prior to retirement, Ross built a career at AT&T, where his colleagues affectionately referred to him as Ross-some.

Ross's greatest joy came from his family. He cherished spending daily moments with his grandchildren delighting in adventures that would become treasured memories. Family was the cornerstone of Ross's life; he was not only a devoted father, but also a beacon of strength and love, willing to do anything his children and others needed.

His battle with Parkinson's Disease over the past 11 years was a testament to his spirit, faith, hope, and love for God. Even in the face of adversity, Ross remained an inspiration to those around him due to his positive and happy outlook, even until the last days of his life.

Ross leaves behind his loving wife, Martha, with whom he shared a profound bond of love for 41 years, having married on August 19, 1983. He is survived by his son Charles (Emma); grandchildren, Clara and Sylvie Heaton and Orin, and Liam Yelvington. Also mourning his loss are his sister Peggy Heaton Carr, brothers Mark (Debbie), Bruce, and Kent (Karen), alongside numerous nephews, nieces, and friends who were touched by his gentle spirit.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jessica Heaton Yelvington, his parents, John and Mary Heaton, and his brother Brad Heaton.

As we remember Ross, we honor the legacy of love, strength, and kindness that he leaves behind. His influence will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of God and surrounded by the cherished memories of a life well-lived.

The Heaton family would like to thank you for the many acts of kindness that have been shown. Ross will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl with Military Honors. Watson-Milton Funeral Home in Trenton, Fl is honored to serve the family of Ross Heaton. www.watsonmilton.com 352.463.8888
