In Moena Mathis, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at Haven Hospice of Chiefland. Born on September 21, 1940, in Chiefland, Florida, as Moena Watson, she lived a life marked by deep compassion, unwavering faith, and selfless devotion to her family and community.
Moena dedicated many years of her professional life serving as a secretary for the Gilchrist County School system. Her commitment to her work reflected her detail-oriented nature and her genuine care for others, always lending a helping hand to staff and students alike.
Central to Moena’s life was her unwavering involvement at Bethel Baptist Church. She found great joy in teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and participating in every church activity she could. Her dedication and enthusiasm inspired those around her, and her church truly became an extension of her family. Moena's proudest accomplishments were her commitment to her family and her steadfast devotion to her church community.
Known for her warmth and kindness, Moena never met a stranger. She treated everyone she encountered with respect and a generous heart, qualities that endeared her to all. Always ready to go and do, she earned the affectionate nickname “Mo On the Go” from her family, a testament to her boundless energy and willingness to earn some timeless memories.
Moena’s legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Jerry) Driggers; her son Brady Mathis; her sisters Linda Lawrence, Patti Werner, and Connie Beauchamp; and her cherished grandchildren Alyssa (Chase) Prince, Jessica, Megan, and Chase. The joy she derived from being a grandmother was only equaled by her delight in watching her family grow, and she was a beloved great-grandmother to Ty, Huntley, Blayton, Skye, Saydee, and Kash.
She reunites in eternal peace with her husband Donald Mathis and her son Bradley Mathis, as well as her parents James and Bennie Watson and her brother Jimmy Watson, each of whom held an irreplaceable place in her heart.
Visitation and viewing for Moena Mathis will take place at Bethel Baptist Church, 7070 SW Co Rd 334A, Trenton, FL 32693, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service honoring her life and legacy will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location with Rev. Jamie Brock taking care of the family.. Interment will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, SW Co Rd 334A, FL 32693.
Moena’s kindness and tireless spirit touched all who knew her, leaving an enduring imprint that will be remembered for generations. Her life was a gift to her family, friends, and community, and her gentle soul will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
