She was born on November 16, 1933, in Trenton, Florida. It was there, she grew up as a local girl, called Margaret, with three brothers with whom she was close in age, and a sister eight years younger. She had fond childhood memories of mothering her little sister Wanda. She had a deep bond with her “baby” sister. She and her brother Bill, were mistaken as twins, born eleven months apart. They attended school in the same grade back then. Her protective instincts were displayed. One of her brothers recounted the time an uncle tried to “spank” one of the boys and she successfully intervened, taking a stance in between them, wielding a stick to shield her brother. She enjoyed her remarkable childhood filled with love, compassion, and dedication.

While a devoted mother, her greatest love, however, was her love of Jesus.

Roy Rogers, the famous cowboy actor, even attended her daughter Beth's birthday party in Orlando—a cherished moment that brought joy to all who were present.

Mary had a very gentle nature. In her later years, she enjoyed long walks to Mountaineer Coffee in downtown Brooksville with her daughter. She enjoyed engaging in conversations about Florida's captivating history and indulged in reading notable works such as the famous Florida historical novel, A Land Remembered by Patrick Smith. Mary also took pleasure in participating in athletic activities, particularly watching golf and football—a testament to her passion for sports.
Mary faithfully attended Bible studies with her numerous friends. After her homegoing it was emphasized to her daughter Beth that Mary always requested prayer for her children during times of prayer. Her faith and love of the Word of God was very evident who were fortunate enough to know her.
