Makayla Knowles

Makayla Knowles, age 22, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and granddaughter, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. Makalya was born on April 26, 2003, to parents, Joshua Phillips and Nancy Herndon. 

Makayla was bold, outgoing, passionate, and deeply kind. Her smile had a way of lighting up any room, and her presence was unmistakable. You always knew where you stood with Makayla. She was honest, fiercely loyal, and never hesitated to fight for the people she loved. She had a deep love for animals and found joy in experiences that made life feel alive, especially going to concerts and visiting theme parks. She embraced life fully, with enthusiasm and an open heart. 

Above all else, Makayla was a devoted mother to her two-year-old daughter, Addilynne, whom she loved with every fiber of her being. Being Addilynne’s mother was her greatest joy and proudest role. She put her daughter before everything and was known to be a wonderful, attentive, and selfless mother. 

In 2025, Makayla married the love of her life, Joshua. Though their time together as husband and wife was far too short, their bond was deep and meaningful. Joshua described Makayla as a wonderful wife who truly saw him for who he was. He knew from the moment he first saw her that she was someone he needed to know. A feeling that shaped the love they shared. 

Makayla is survived by her husband, Joshua Knowles; their daughter, Addilynne; her parents, Joshua Philips, Nancy Herndon, and bonus mom Glenda Phillips; her siblings, Curtis Phillips, Zachary Phillips, Kylie Faught, Kirstin Herndon, and Kaleb Herndon; her grandparents, Curtis and Paula Philips and Frances and Kim Castor; she is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles who will miss her deeply. 

A Celebration of Life to honor Makayla will be held on Friday, January 16th, at 3:00 PM, at Watson-Milton Funeral Home. Family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM. Watson Milton is honored to serve Makayla’s family during this time.
