Lucie Deen DeChant, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, September 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Lucie was born on February 12, 1935, to Lee and Lossie Deen of Trenton, Florida. After
graduating from Trenton High School, Lucie married Hope “Bud”, Colson. Together, Bud and Lucie raised 3 boys, Buddy, Lee and Bobby.
After moving to Palatka, Florida, Lucie became a member of the Putnam Women’s Sorority, an avid golfer, and worked as a bookkeeper in the banking industry while continuing to love and nurture her family. Lucie later re-married Richard “Dick” DeChant with whom she had one son, William “Billy” Dechant, and lived in St. Augustine, Florida.
After the death of her second husband, Lucie came back home to Trenton to raise her son Billy and start a new career with the Florida Department of Corrections where she worked for over 10 years.
Lucie retired in 2000 and moved to the peace and serenity of Providence, Florida to be near her son Lee. Lucie was a devoted, lifelong dog lover who doted and loved her pet children with the greatest care.
Lucie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” DeChant, parents, Lee and Lossie Deen, brothers Jack Deen, Tommy Deen, Clayton Deen and her first son, Buddy.
She is survived by sons, Lee (Angela) Colson, Providence, Fl, Bobby (Alice) Colson, Newberry, Fl, and Billy (Valerie) DeChant, Jacksonville, Fl, a brother, Ricky (Judy) Deen of Ocala, Fl, Sister-in-Law, Jeanette Deen of Stone Island, FL and her beloved Chihuahua, Sherie’. Grandchildren: Amy, 2 great grandchildren, Jason (Jackie), 4 great grandchildren, Wesley (Karen), 3 great grandchildren, and Andrew (Nicole), 2 great grandchildren.
A funeral to honor Lucie's life will be held on Tuesday, September 19, at 11:00 am at Watson-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. The family has requested a private burial following the services.
