John Curtis Brooks

d. Aug 29, 2026

J. Curtis Brooks, 65, of High Springs, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2026. He was born on October 27, 1960, and lived a life of faith, love, and devotion to his family, his country, and his community.

Curtis proudly served his country as a United States Marine, a service he was always proud of. He carried the values of the Marine Corps throughout his life — hard work, loyalty, and never giving up.

He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud papa, and a true friend to so many. Curtis had a heart for others and never met a stranger. He was the neighborhood watch, taking his dogs on nightly walks and checking in on the neighbors. He looked out for everyone and made sure all was well.

He had a love for NASCAR, WWE wrestling, fishing, working on cars, and enjoyed concerts, spontaneous day trips, and adventures with the people he loved. Whether it was sitting around a fire telling stories, making memories, or loading up for a last-minute trip, Curtis lived life to the fullest.

His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved riding bumper cars and roller coasters with them, taking them to the water park, and making every moment an adventure. He loved playing man hunt at the house and his famous “Jackel yell” that always brought laughter and excitement.

Curtis will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his helping hand, and the countless ways he made life brighter for those around him. His love for God, family, country, and friends was the foundation of who he was.

He is preceded in death by his parents and now reunited with his loved ones in Heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Brooks; his children, Brittany (Justin) Sheffield and Matthew (Destinee) Brooks; his grandchildren, Jordyn Sheffield, Rhett Sheffield, Conner Sheffield, Carsen Sheffield, and Eli Brooks; along with many other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
