Jimmie Marvis Sheffield, a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County and a man whose dedication to his faith, family, and community, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, in Trenton, Florida, at the age of 84.
Born on May 11, 1942, in Trenton, Florida, Jimmie was the son of the late Chester and Clara Sheffield. Raised with the values of hard work, honesty, and service, he spent his entire life investing in the community he loved and proudly called home.
A 1960 graduate of Bell High School, Jimmie quickly established himself as a hardworking and dependable man. Throughout his life, he worked for several well-known businesses, including Copeland Sausage Company, General Electric, Publix, Akins Grocery, and Chiefland Custom Meats. As a skilled butcher, he became well respected for his work processing cattle and pork, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic.
A true Gilchrist County legend, Jimmie faithfully served the citizens of Gilchrist County as a County Commissioner for sixteen years. His leadership, integrity, and commitment to improving the lives of those around him earned him the respect and admiration of countless friends and neighbors.
Above all else, Jimmie was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Center Hill Church of Christ. His love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life, and he found great joy in worship, fellowship, and living as an example of Christian faith and compassion.
In 1960, Jimmie married the love of his life, Faye Akins Sheffield. Together they shared an extraordinary 65 years of marriage built on love, faith, and commitment.
Outside of his work and public service, Jimmie found his greatest happiness enjoying the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, farming, raising cattle, and spending time on the land he cherished. Whether working alongside friends, sharing stories with neighbors, or gathering with family, he treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by those he loved.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Clara Sheffield; his sons, Jimmie and Johnny Sheffield; and his brother, Willie Sheffield.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Faye Akins Sheffield; his children, Pamela (John) Knecht, Regina Sheffield, and James (Bronna) Sheffield; his brothers, Bobby and Carl Sheffield; his sisters, Annette (Robert) Hines and Joan (Mark) Hill; and his legacy will continue on with his grandchildren, Jacqueline (Tyler) Knight, Katelyn Sheffield, Kaycee Sheffield, Travis Sheffield and Scott Sheffield; and great grandchildren, Micha, Mila, Brody, Aspen, Arbor, and Oaklynn.
