James Roy Allison III

June 15, 1952 — July 15, 2025

James Roy “Jim” Allison III, 73, of Newberry, FL, passed away on July 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones. Born June 15, 1952, in Miami, FL, he later moved to Newberry, FL. He received a bachelor’s of arts in history from the University of Florida and worked for the University for many years. Jim will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose kindness and compassion touched everyone around him.

He married Ruth Jost Allison in 1985 and together they raised their son, James Roy Allison IV — which created a close-knit, caring family that was the center of his world. He delighted in time spent with his two beloved grandsons, Tyler Allison, and Thomas Allison, for whom he lived and whose lives he helped shape through his warmth and humor

Jim's life was marked by a unique kindness, humility and a deep love for his family. He never missed a family event if he could help it, and his caring nature was evident in everything he did. A passionate gardener, Jim took joy in sharing his harvest, regularly donating surplus produce to the Gilchrist County Senior Citizen's Food Pantry. He was an early riser who also enjoyed bird watching, list making, journal keeping, camping, traveling, studying history, and cheering on the University of Florida Gators football team. Tom Petty was a favorite of his.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, son James IV, grandsons Tyler, and Thomas; his brother Larry Allison; his sister Lauri Allison LaBadie, numerous family members and his many friends, some since his childhood in Miami.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James “Roy” Allison, Jr. and Constance “Connie” Ayres Allison. Jim’s memory will live on in the kindness and laughter he brought to so many.

A memorial service will be held at the Newberry Municipal Building on August 16th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Gilchrist County Senior Citizen's Food Pantry and Tri County Outreach Food Pantry are welcomed in his memory.
