Herman Carl Luke Jr., a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on September 21, 2025, at the age of 88 in Palm Garden of Gainesville, Gainesville, Florida. Born on February 17, 1937, in Miami, Florida, Herman dedicated his life to his family and to his career as a fabrication manager with Valmor Distribution Company and Dade Truss, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.
Throughout his life, Herman was celebrated for his great sense of humor and his devotion to his family. He had an incredible ability to connect with those around him, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. His love for people was evident in all aspects of his life, whether he was helping others or in simple heartfelt conversation. This kindness and openness extended beyond his family and friends; he was a familiar face within his church community, sharing his faith and joy with everyone he met. Herman had a special relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ, which provided him with strength and purpose throughout his life.
In his free time, Herman enjoyed a number of hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors and craftsmanship. He loved camping and working with wood, showcasing his creative side and appreciation for nature. Additionally, he found comfort in reading and gardening, activities that brought him peace and fulfillment. His beloved dog, Bolt, was a constant companion, adding joy and warmth to his days. Herman's battle with dementia was a difficult journey, but he faced it with the same resilience and grace he exemplified throughout his life.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Lucretia Rae Sylvia; and his parents Herman Carl Luke Sr. and Marie Leona Ripley;
He is survived by his children, Karen Anne (Joe) Hewitt (Luke) of Bell, FL and Barry Joseph (Joy) Luke of Clermont, Florida; grandchildren: Spencer Renae Hewitt of Yulee, FL, and Elizabeth Marie Luke of Clermont, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that trees be planted in Herman's memory, creating a lasting tribute to his life and legacy.
