Charlie Griffin Morgan, Sr., 78, passed peacefully on October 31, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with bladder cancer. Charlie was born in Otter Creek, Florida in 1944 to parents Charlie and Margaret Morgan. He graduated from Chiefland High School in 1962 and was soon drafted to serve in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Charlie took great pride in his service to his country in the 531st Transportation Company where he supported the war efforts by transporting cargo in Okinawa and Vietnam. Upon distinguished and honorable completion of his service, he returned to Trenton, Florida and continued his career as a civilian truck driver. In 1973, he founded “Charlie G Morgan Trucking” which hauled wood chips and other forestry products. Eleven years later, he stepped away to launch a logging company - “Sweetwater Wood Products.” In 1996, he resumed co-operations of “Charlie G Morgan Trucking” with his son Charlie G Morgan, Jr (Chucky) and ran the company until shortly before his passing.
He was a family man who cared deeply for his wife of 57 years, Carolyn. Outside of his family, one of his greatest joys was sharing the vegetables he grew in his prosperous gardens with family, friends, and neighbors. He was well known for his delicious food, and his love for the outdoors.
To his family, he was affectionately known as “Poppy” and his legacy of compassion and selflessness in caring for others will forever define his life.
He is preceded in death by his father Charlie D. Morgan and his brother Mickey Morgan.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Morgan; children Charlie G Morgan Jr. (Cynthia) and Melissa Morgan-Lopez (David); grandchildren Lindsey Popejoy (Mike), Wesley Lopez, Justin Morgan (Shelby), Peyton Morgan, Morgan Lopez, Jenny Lopez, and Julie Lopez; great-grandchildren Mason Popejoy and Kaiden Popejoy; mother Margaret Morgan; sister Melba Ward (Winston); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
