Ms. Alice Blalock Gilbert, age 94, of Bell, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 18, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Memphis, TN, on January 15, 1929, to Robert Coley and Ruth Newman Coley. She graduated from Memphis State College where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She taught school in Pinellas County for over 30 years until her retirement. Ms. Alice moved to Gilchrist County in 1990 where she was a member of the Trenton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Spring House Quilt Club. She was also a member of the Gilchrist County Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Ralph Blalock; her husband of 15 years, Will Gilbert; her parents; and her sister, Eva Mae Powell.
Ms. Alice is survived by her daughter, Sue Gillman of Daytona; son, Len (Milli) Blalock of Bell; 4 grandchildren, John (Tianda) Herrington, Jodie Herrington, Bree (Jordan) Holbrook, and Chase (Alexandra) Gillman; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Betty) Coley of Oakland, MS; many extended family members also survive including, Lee (Dorothy) Gilbert, Bill Gilbert, Matt (Julie) Gilbert, and a caregiver, Donna Tooke.
A funeral to honor Ms. Alice’s life will be held on Thursday, September 21, at 2:00 pm, at Watson-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in the Priscilla Baptist Church Cemetery.
